●What are chiribashi (dust chopsticks)? They are bamboo chopsticks that are placed against the service stone of a dust hole in the garden to pick up dust such as leaves.
Generally, green madake bamboo is split and made each time.
The dimensions vary depending on the style, but most are around one shaku to one shaku 5 sun in length, about one bu in thickness, with a node about one-third of the way down from the top, and the bottom end cut off at an angle so that when two are joined together they form a sword tip.
The shape of the top varies depending on the school; Omotesenke cuts it diagonally, Urasenke cuts it flat, and Mushakojisenke cuts it so that it forms an arrow notch when two are joined together.
According to one theory, it is an application of the "chusu" method of using it in the garden.
A shuushi was originally a wooden skewer used for counting, but in Zen temples it refers to a long, thin wooden board used for excretion and is also called a kusobera.
●A dustpan is a wooden tool used to sweep up dust such as leaves from outdoor areas.
The Rikyu style is made of paulownia wood and has a handle made of the same wood.
The dimensions are that the base board is 8.5 sun long, 6.4 sun wide at the top and 7.0 sun at the bottom, with edges 1.1 sun high on three sides, the ends of both the base board and edges are rounded, and the handle is 3.4 sun long, 1.5 and a half sun wide at the top and 1.3 sun at the bottom, and there are holes so it can be hung.
