Born in 1942 in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture
In 1946, he studied under Wajima lacquer artist Shusaku Taniuchi.
1950: Joined Kyoto Hikari Kogeisha (studied under Masayoshi Shima) - 10 years of training
1955: Became independent as Yachi Urushi Kogei (producing and manufacturing Kyoto-style lacquer tea ceremony utensils)
In 1986, he was certified as a traditional craftsman by the Minister of International Trade and Industry.
In 1992, he was awarded the "Kyoto Master Craftsman" award for outstanding craftsmanship in traditional industries by the Governor of Kyoto Prefecture.
2004: Awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays, for distinguished contributions to traditional crafts
