Born in Nagoya in 1942 as the fourth son of sword appraiser Toyoba Shigeharu.
In 1960, he trained under the Living National Treasure Toyozo Arakawa at Suigetsugama and Ogaya in Tajimi City.
In 1974, he built a hole kiln in Ogaya, Kukuri, Kani City, Gifu Prefecture, and became independent.
The kiln was named after an old kiln nearby.
After that, he continued to help Toyozo with his work.
In 1975, he built a climbing kiln.
