Born in Shigaraki in 1954
In 1974, after graduating from the Kyoto Prefectural Potters' Training School and the Shiga Prefectural Ceramic Industry Testing Center, he studied pottery making under his father, Rakusai IV.
In 1975, the Goyokai was established under the guidance of Toyozo Arakawa.
Participated in the Goyokai Exhibition at Takashimaya Department Store in Osaka In 1984, he held a solo exhibition at Takashimaya in Osaka and has held ten exhibitions since then.
Held numerous solo exhibitions around the country
September 2010: Takes on the name of Godai Rakusai at the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi department store
At the same time, he received instruction from Professor Kazue Hyoko and Professor Kato Tansai.
