What is Chiwa?
[Summer purification ritual] Minazuki ritual
The Chinowa Shinto ritual is pronounced "Chinowashinji" and is also known as "Wa-koshi Festival" and "Passing Through the Chinowa."
Thatch (Kaya) is a general term for thatch, reeds, and Japanese silver grass. By passing through this ring, people pray to be rid of their sins and impurities and to become pure in mind and body.
☆Origin: The origin of the Chinowa is based on the story that when Somin Shorai, who had done good deeds, was told by Muto no Kami (Susanoo no Mikoto) that "if an epidemic occurs, you will be spared if you wear a Chinowa around your waist," So he did as he was told and was able to avoid the epidemic.
The proper way to enter is to face the main shrine, go left, then right, then left, pass through, bow twice, clap twice and bow once.
