In the past, Isseido's black-knotted kettle was made by first creating the shape of the kettle using the "squeezing" technique.
The pieces are polished with magnolia charcoal, colored by boiling in copper sulfate, and finished by smoking with pine needles.
The first generation was Saito Keijiro, followed by Ito Masajiro, the second, and Ito Hikoichi, the third.
