●What is Ito-ya Fuudo? It is said to have been a treasured possession of Ito-ya Souyu, a disciple of Rikyu and a merchant in Sakai.
It is a double weave fabric that has a woven pattern of different colors on the front and back, and depending on the pattern, the front and back cross, creating a pattern of opposite colors on the front and back.
Examples of use include the covers for the Masukagami tea caddies and Boncha caddies (specialties of the Chuko period).
