- Fifteenth Night
- This happens on the full moon day that occurs around August 15th on the lunar calendar.
- Moon viewing (harvest moon)
- In the Edo period, the custom of eating harvested potatoes while admiring the harvest moon began among ordinary people as well. Gradually, this custom came to have the meaning of "giving thanks for a good harvest during the harvest season," and people began to offer vegetables harvested during that time as well.
By the way, the reason why "Susuki" is offered along with the offerings is because it resembles ears of rice, and it expresses gratitude to the gods for the harvest. - [Sanshiro Imaoka] Myoken Kiln (Kyoto ware)
