- What is Mishima?
- This is one of the Goryeo tea bowls.
The name was given because the design on the tea bowl resembles the Mishima Rekishi, a book that was once published in Mishima, Izu (Shizuoka Prefecture).
During the Azuchi-Momoyama period, Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea and brought Korean potters to Japan. The inlaid patterns on the tea bowls resembled the Mishima calendar, and so the name Mishima-te and Mishima-mon came into use.
