The origin of Tsumeori Tsuzure
Tsuzure weaving is made using the same techniques as European Gobelin weaving, which is considered the pinnacle of artistic and craft textiles, and the ancient Japanese Tsuzure weaving. It requires a great deal of skill to weave the patterns; unlike ordinary weaving, the nails are made into a saw shape and a sketch is placed under the warp threads. While looking at this, the weft threads are woven with the nails, one color at a time, to weave a pattern exactly like the sketch. It is so time-consuming that only a few centimetres can be weaved in a day, which is why Tsuzure weaving is hailed as the pinnacle of handicraft and stitching art.
