Today we would like to introduce you to a tea scoop with a name, made of sooted bamboo, with the inscription Tanabata, written by Horiuchi Sokan, and by Kenchuusai.

Tanabata
It is one of the five seasonal festivals and is a star festival.
It is said that on this day, which occurs only once a year, Orihime (the Weaver Girl) and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd) have a date above the Milky Way, and on this day the maiden weaves kimonos and places them on a shelf to welcome the gods, praying for a good harvest in the fall and for improvement in her artistic skills.
Tanabata was originally an event held on July 7th of the lunar calendar, which means that it falls in August in the Gregorian calendar.

The founder of the Horiuchi family was Horiuchi Jyosa (1612-1699), a scholar of Japanese classics, who is said to have learned the tea ceremony from Yamada Sohen.
(The Horiuchi family traces its roots back to the mid-Edo period when Senkaku Horiuchi was a samurai.)

1953 (Showa 28) Takes the name Sokan
In 1997, he handed over the name of Sokan to his elder brother, Bunmeisai, and took the name Soshin.
